Forums: Helping Hand > Updated item template

Use the following template for a nicely presented post:

I wanted to update the {{Item}} infobox for some of the more detailed item pages around the wiki. That is, an infobox that could accommodate different entries for different editions: varying costs, weights, auras, etc. depending on edition.

I finally hacked one up at {{Item2}}, and employed it on the sword Dornavver/Demonbane, seen at User:BadCatMan/Sandbox. Please have a look, tell me what you think or see if there's any problems.

Later, I'll make the entries specific to the other editions, as it's rather 3e-focused now. I can look up 4th later, and examine statted items in 1st and 2nd. But please feel free to tell me what is required for a 1e or 2e item.

This new template should just replace the old one, right? You're not removing any old parameters, just adding new ones? I'll take a closer look when I get time.

I like it... though, I am guessing the top portion is for non-edition specific items... correct? Otherwise, you have duplicate information...

Yes, as for {{Person}} and {{Spell}}, I expect both general and edition-specific parameters. The old parameters should remain to ensure the existing infoboxes still function on old pages, while the updated parameters should allow new and updated articles to be more thoroughly detailed in the infobox. I don't intend to remove any at this stage. The parameters at the top should be either for the old-style infobox or for general, non-edition-specific information.

The updated template is now complete and implemented at {{Item}}. I've used it at Ilbratha, Sarghathuld, Chalsembyr's Heart, Dornavver, and Hair shirt of Ilmater. Please take a look, tell me if you see any problems. It shouldn't break existing item infoboxes, but please take a look around. I can't find any problems myself, yet.

Furthermore, please suggest refinements for the edition-specific parameters. 3rd, 3.5, and 4th I know and detailed. I looked through old sourcebooks for the others, and could only find GP and XP costs for 1st. I don't know what's necessary for 2nd edition, and haven't even seen 5th yet.

After a quick glance through a couple books, I can't find anything in 2nd edition that wouldn't be covered by the current set of parameters. I'm sure time will tell ;)
