As part of the Year of Magic, I was looking to sort the spells into unique categories, and I propose we start this with Zakhara spells category, a new cat and note similar to the southern magic cat/note. Many of the Zakhara spells added by Artemaz are unique to Zakhara and not used elsewhere. Thoughts?

Testing it with Alter normal winds.

I am not sure that it is the same issue. Southern magic is written in its own way and with its own special components, yes? There is nothing really unique about Zakharan spells, if I understand correctly. I think it is dangerous to assume that a spell is actually "unique" to a particular area. I know for certain that many of the spells in the Zakharan sourcebooks are mentioned in the Spelljammer setting, for example, and later editions often borrowed originally Zakharan spells. In other words, I think that such a category is misleading and potentially canonically incorrect.

That is a good point. Maybe the note should only be on spells that are used only in Zakhara and not mentioned in any other sourcebook? The spell category will work I think, similar to Elf spells. I can change the wording in the cat page to spells used in Zakhara instead of spells unique to Zakhara.

I completely agree with Lhynard's arguments. "Unique" in this case only means developed in and widely used only in Zakhara. If we let the Wizard's Spell Compendium apply for the Realms, this also says these spells are used outside Zakhara, but are (very) rare there.
A Category:Zakharan spells makes sense in my opinion if we want to start a completely new line of spell distinction by region (similar to Category:Spells by race, as Regis87 suggested). It would be interesting how it should be defined exactly: As "region of main use" (which may be kind of fuzzy), "region of origin", or ... and if "region" is actually the best word. If it was to be "region of origin" in the end, many Player's Handbook spells interestingly would actually be Netherese spells :-).

It can be tricky if we were to do Spells by Region. I was planning on doing it just for Zakhara, Maztica and Kara-tur. Spells commonly used in those continents but rare/very rare in Faerûn.

Fair enough!
