The garbs of the cubi was a set of enchanted light armor with its origins tied to Avernus, the first layer of the Nine Hells of Baator, created sometime in or before the late 15th century DR.[1]
Description[]
The garbs of the cubi were clothes of red and orange ornamentation that remained spotless and undamaged, while retaining a stench of fire and brimstone.[1]
Powers[]
When the wearer of these clothes managed to deal devastating damage to their enemy with a single attack, the enchantments pulled the target towards the wearer for the duration of five seconds. If a creature was unaffected or resisted the effect, they also suffered trauma that caused them bleeding wounds.[1]
History[]
In the late 15th century DR, the garbs of the cubi were worn by Jachinthe the Vain, a succubus that dwelt in Avernus. The creature may have been slain by a group of adventurers from Neverwinter and the garbs taken back to the Prime Material plane during the Year of Three Ships Sailing, 1492 DR.[note 1][1]

Notes[]
- ↑ Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus is set in 1492 DR per the "Baldur's Gate Gazetteer" section (p. 159) and a clarification from the adventure's lead writer. Baldur's Gate III, which is a direct sequel to Descent into Avernus set immediately after its events, is also set in 1492 DR. In an apparent error, pages 7 and 47 of Descent into Avernus describes certain events as occurring "fifty years" after the Companion's appearance in 1444 DR (which would set the adventure in 1494 DR). Regardless of whether this was an error, Forgotten Realms: Heroes of Faerûn reports both the 1444 DR appearance of the Companion and the 1492 DR events of Descent into Avernus as correct.
