Gnoll Pass was a mountain pass through the Storm Horns in northern Cormyr.[4][3]

Geography[]

The Gnoll Pass ran between the eastern end of the Storm Horns and the smaller Gnoll Peaks, and carried the Moonsea Ride with it north from Arabel.[5] It adjoined the Helmlands of northern Cormyr, and was a generally sparsely-inhabited and wild land.[1] The Purple Dragons fortresses of Castle Crag and Slingdyke guarded the southern end of the pass, with Castle Kilgrave and Wyvernwatch Castle nearby.[6] The Stonelands lay north of the Pass, with the Moonsea Ride and Stonebolt Trail leading to the towns of Halfhap and Tilverton and eventually to the Dalelands and the Moonsea.[7]

Description[]

Gnoll Pass was the main route of access from northern Cormyr into the Stonelands and beyond, handling the majority of trade, travelers and military movements.[8] It was a vital strategic chokepoint that separated the Stonelands from Cormyr, and was guarded against invaders from the Stonelands by the defensive fortress of Castle Crag.[6][8]

The area was well known for its coal mines, which were operated by people from Arabel, and dominated by the merchants of House Misrim.[4][3]
