Grunfesting (meaning "Green Fortress" in the Giant language[2]) was an ancient giant-ruled kingdom in Faerûn during the Time of Giants of the Dawn Age (−30,000 DR to −24,000 DR).[3]

The Skull Gorge was one of the many areas of land that the kingdom encompassed. Those that lived in the gorge were ruled over by a lord in the city of Kongen-Thulnir.[1]
History[]
Grunfesting was one of the giant kingdoms that warred with the ancient dragon kingdoms during the Dawn Age.[3][4]
Grunfesting managed to survive beyond the Thousand Year War, but over time their kingdom's power gradually waned.[1]

Stone giants were the predominant race in the kingdom of Grunfesting. In the years following the Thousand Year War, with their power waning its citizens in Skull Gorge allowed the primitive ancestors of humans to settle alongside them.[1]
