Gum arabic was a plant resin from the acacia tree, used for mundane, alchemical, and magical purposes.[2][3]
Availability[]
Aurora's Emporium sold gum arabic for 5 sp per 6 ounces (170 grams), intended for wizards to use in their spells and laboratory experiments.[1]
Usage[]
Gum arabic was widely used to make baked goods, candy, adhesives, and more esoteric alchemical recipes. It also found some use in medicine, such as repairing damaged tissue.[2][4][3]
Spell Components[]
Gum arabic was a material component in several spells:
- Invisibility and mass invisibility used an eyelash encased in gum arabic.[5][6]
- Otiluke's resilient sphere and Otiluke's telekinetic sphere used a hemisphere of gum arabic and a hemisphere of gemstone.[7][8][9]
- Polymorph any object used gum arabic, mercury, and smoke as material components.[10][11][12]
- Sequester used gum arabic, a basilisk eyelash, and whitewash.[13][14][15]
