The Happy Hippocampus was an inn and tavern found in the harbor district of the city of Procampur in the Vast.[1]
Location[]
This building was located in Procampur's Harbor district.[1] It had a number of small "bed-and-beer" houses huddled around it.[2]
Description[]
Structure[]
This building was around three stories tall, with a yellow roof slanting over it. In front of the entrance hung a shingle depicting a hippocampus with a beer stein in its mouth, with bubbles rising to the creature's side.[1]
Interior[]
Together the tavern area and the bar measured 30 feet (9.1 meters) by 40 feet (12 meters). There were twelve tables in the tavern area, which would be moved around depending upon the size of groups. Various pieces of nautical equipment hung across the tavern walls, such as belaying pins, nets, and ropes with grappling hooks. Above the bar was hung a stern wheel and above the entrance was hung an astrolabe.[1]
Behind the bar was a kitchen and pantry that measured 10 feet (3 meters) by 30 feet (9.1 meters). Inside was a staircase to the basement, where food and liqueur were store. This basement also had a small, yet well-stocked, wine cellar.[1]
Situated next to the bar was a staircase to the second floor. This floor consisted of a large common room and seven guest bedrooms. The door to the third floor was typically locked during working hours, as that was where the staff lived.[1]
Atmosphere[]
Frequented by adventurers visiting the city,[2] the Happy Hippocampus was a lively[1] and a noisy place compared to the Silent Sword.[2]
Provender[]
The Happy Hippocampus mostly served seafood at cheap prices and quality. The quality of their drinks varied each night, as the establishment's proprietor was often known to trade his homebrew beer for foreign alcohols.[1]
History[]
Once the site of a failed brothel, this building was purchased by the mariner couple Bialtor and Rieggei Doogen. They founded Happy Hippocampus proper in the Year of the Wave, 1364 DR, following Bialtor's discharge from the naval branch of the Diamond Legion.[1]
