The Hornblades were the twin favored weapons of the Faerûnian goddess Mielikki, the Supreme Ranger.[1][4][2]
Description[]
Each was a scimitar-sized[1][2] hornblades.[1] As such, it appeared, even on close inspection, to just be a simple piece of animal horn, at least 0.5 feet (0.15 meters) long, set into a handle or grip. But when a particular spot was pressed, it would extend a sickle-shaped blade that was quite sturdy and sharp.[3] As scimitars, they weighed 4 pounds (1.8 kilograms).[2]
Abilities[]
After the Time of Troubles of 1358 DR, her swords were noted to be regular hornblades +3. When shared with mortals, one functioned as a rod of alertness and the other as a rod of security, both with the full fifty charges.[1]
After the Year of Wild Magic, 1372 DR, the Hornblades were each +5 defending holy keen mighty cleaving scimitars.[2]
Uses[]
Though Mielikki was skilled in fighting with her Hornblades,[1][2] she rarely actually used them, as she did not engage in melee often, and favored her fists when she did. She would rather rely on her own skills and magic[1] and her longbow, named Hartsong.[1][2]
She sometimes lent these weapons to mortal rangers who embarked on great quests on her behalf.[1]
Based on the Hornblades, the scimitar was the favored weapon of Mielikkian clerics.[4][1]
