Illuskan was the name usually given to humans from the Sword Coast North, the North, and the island realms of the Sea of Swords and Trackless Sea.[3] They included the seafaring Northlanders, the Uthgardt tribes, the Reghedmen tribes, and the bulk of the human population in places like the Delimbiyr Vale, Luskan, Mirabar, Neverwinter, Silverymoon, and Waterdeep.[3][4]
Description[]
Illuskans were tall, fair-skinned people. Most had blue or steel gray eyes. Those living on the islands in the Trackless Sea and Icewind Dale had more blond hair, with red and lighter brown also being common. Those in the Sword Coast North and surrounding lands had more raven black hair, from their significant Netherese heritage.[3]
Outlook[]
Most Illuskans derived great pride from their resilience in the face of the harshness of their homelands. They saw folk from southern lands as weak and decadent.[5]
Culture[]
Most Illuskan commoners were farmers, fishers, miners, or sailors. More adventurous types were known to become raiders, skalds, or runecasters.[5]
History[]
The early ancestors of the Illuskans were seafarers who appeared out of the west to settle on the island of Ruathym in the Trackless Sea circa −3100 DR. The Illuskan people would come to regard Ruathym as their ancestral home, from where they spread onto the continent of Faerûn following the founding of the city of Illusk circa −3000 DR.[6][7] By −1000 DR, they had also begun to settle the many islands west of the Sword Coast as far south as the Nelanther Isles.[3][7]
