An iuak was a blade made of bone or stone[2] that resembled a machete, common in the Great Glacier.[3]
Description[]
An iuak was about 2 ft (0.61 m) long and 6 ft (1.8 m) wide.[4] It had a flat tip,[4] and weighed about 4 lb (1.8 kg).[1] In some lands, it could sell for as much as twelve gold pieces.[1]
Usage[]
It was primarily used for carving snow blocks for snow houses, but it could also be used as a weapon.[4][2] However, Iuaks tended to break if employed in combat by someone not skilled in their usage.[1]
Notable Owners[]
Nearly every Iulutiun hunter carried an iuak.[4] Iuaks were less popular among the Angulutiuns, and only about half of their hunters bore this weapon.[5] The weapon was rare among the Nakulutiuns.[6]
The great explorer Sharra Frohm carried an iuak[7] as did the famous Iulutiun philosopher Inum.[8] Najass, a master Iulutiun hunter, fought with a custom-made, two-handed iuak made from tirichik bone.[9]
