James Ward was a fantasy author and game designer who has worked for TSR, Inc. He was one of Gary Gygax's original players. He introduced deities into Dungeons & Dragons and created the first ever science fiction role-playing game, Metamorphosis Alpha.

In addition to many sourcebooks for TSR, Ward also authored several novels, including The Pools trilogy.
