"Juice of the Vine" was a drinking song sung in northwest Faerûn in the late 15th century DR. It celebrated drinking wine, carousing, and relaxing rather than complaining.[1][2]

Lyrics[]

Not fortune found, nor fate divine,
Come close to toping the juice of the vine.
With cherry crew, we sip and sway,
Let's tip the tankard and waste the day.
Reeraw! Well ye ken, our toils can wait for a time.
We saw the folly of men who rather than revel repine.
Reeraw! Well ye ken, our toils can wait for a time.
We saw the folly of men who rather than revel repine.
— Lyrics of "Juice of the Vine"[1][2]

History[]

In the late 1490s DR,[note 1] the bard Edgin Darvis sung "Juice of the Vine" to rouse his fellow prisoners while cutting ice at Revel's End prison, though the guard Tobias ordered him to shut up.[1][2] He also sung it to cheer up his companion Holga Kilgore after they departed her ex-husband Marlamin at Longsaddle.[1][3] He thought it was one of Holga's favorites.[3]

Background[]

As discussed here, the lyrics of this song were written by Honor Among Thieves writers Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, and the tune was created by composer Lorne Balfe.

Notes[]

  1. The Honor Among Thieves movie and its tie-ins are as yet undated. As discussed here, from the condition of Castle Never and Dagult Neverember's reign, this wiki estimates a date of the late 1490s DR for the main events of the movie. Prequels and flashback scenes are set up to 11 years before this.
