Sultan Kara al-Zalim, also called the Fierce Sword of the Sea, was the ruler of Jumlat in the Pearl Cities region of west Zakhara in 1367 DR.[note 1][1]

Kara was both cunning and ruthless. These traits made him extremely popular with Jumlat's wealthiest citizens.[1]
History[]
Kara earned his reputation as a ruthless corsair during countless raids against Gana's fleet.[1]

Kara was the nephew of Jumlat's previous sultan and was chosen as the sultan's successor over his own children.[1]
