Trout, commonly referred to as burslake or slake, was a common variety of fish in the continent of Faerûn.[2]

Species[]

Szorp[]

Szorp were a troutlike fish found in the Delimbiyr. Usually brown in color, their white flesh was very tasty and was a staple food in Loudwater as well as a favored delicacy in the more opulent taverns of Waterdeep.[3][4]

Knucklehead[]

The knucklehead trout was a fish unique to Icewind Dale's three lakes. Its ivory was the only real export of the region and was in great demand by the rich over the length and breadth of Faerûn. The ivory itself isn't what was most important because in skilled hands it could be carved into magnificent sculptures.[5][6] The craft, called scrimshaw, was widely in practice in the valleys of the region.[citation needed]

The knucklehead was seen as silvery[7][5] or reddish and silver in hue.[1][note 1]

The main exporters of the craft were:[citation needed]

Notable scrimshanders included Regis.[citation needed]

Notes[]

  1. This discrepancy in coloration may be explained by different species of knucklehead or changes in color during spawning season, just as real trout do.
