Lake Azul, also known as Lake Calor was one of the four lakes surrounding Nexal in Maztica. It was dedicated to the Maztican god Azul.[1]

Description[]

Lake Azul and was the deepest and coldest of the four lakes surrounding Nexal. It lay on the north side of the city[note 1], and was the furthest lake from Mount Zatal to the south of the city. The causeway of the Kultaka road on its southeast side separated it from Lake Zaltec and the causeway of the West Road on its southwest side separated it from Lake Qotal.[1]

History[]

As a result of it being the furthest from Mount Zatal, it was also the safest place to flee during the events of the Night of Wailing when Mount Zatal exploded and destroyed most of Nexal in 1361 DR. The horse Storm fled across this lake to escape Nexal during the catastrophe.[2]

Notes[]

  1. in the map in Viperhand, Douglas Niles has Lake Azul on the north side of the city and Lake Zaltec is on the east side (opposite from Lake Qotal), Poshtli also confirms this in chapter 2 of the same book, but in Ironhelm Lake Azul is referenced around page 65 as being on the east side and Lake Zaltec is on the north side. In even further confusion in chapter 20 of Viperhand, when the remnant of Cordell's legion are retreating on the causeway, it says that the causeway was between Lake Qotal and Lake Zaltec, but Lake Qotal was on their right and Lake Zaltec was on their left.
