Lake Qotal was one of the four lakes surrounding Nexal in Maztica. It was dedicated to the Maztican god Qotal.

Description[]

Lake Qotal was on the west side of Nexal. It was separated from Lake Tezca on the southeast by the desert road and it was separated from Lake Azul to its northwest by the west road. It was brackish saltwater and brown in colour. It was relatively shallow with tufts of grass and reeds extended far into the lake from the shore. It was small and stagnant, named after the god Qotal who had abandoned Maztica to the younger gods. [1]

History[]

A portent appeared in Nexal sometime shortly before the Golden Legion arrived in Maztica when the all of the lakes around Nexal became turbulent, with the sole exception of Lake Qotal. Naltecona, the ruler of Nexal, thought that this was perhaps a sign of the return of Qotal to the world.[2]

During the Night of Wailing, a few survivors from the Golden Legion managed to escape and reached the shore of Lake Qotal, which became very turbulent during Mount Zatal's eruption.[3]
