Similar to a modern day geologist's hammer, a light pick has a metal head with a thick, slightly curved spike backed by either a smaller spike or a hammer head. The haft is about 2 ft (60 cm) long and made of wood or metal. An average light pick costs 4 gp and weighs 3 lb (1.4 kg).
The light pick is also known as a footman's pick because they were wielded by infantry soldiers in hand to hand combat. Because this is a light weapon it can be used while grappling. Picks are intended to pierce plate armor but can get stuck if swung too hard. Some training is required to wield effectively, therefore the light pick is classified as a martial weapon.
