Maple was a type of broad-leafed deciduous tree.[4][5]
Varieties[]
The red maple could be found in the midwood area of the forest of Cormanthor.[6]
Habitats[]
- Maples were one of the three primary trees that grew in the King's Forest of Cormyr.[7][8] Beyond there, they could occasionally be found throughout the lowlands of the Cormyr countryside.[9]
- Maples were quite common in Cormanthor. They were particularly known to surround Lake Sember and to be found in the Flooded Forest.[10]
- In the Dalelands region, maple trees could be found in the Battledale in the forests around Essembra and Hap. They could also be found throughout Harrowdale.[11]
- Maples were known to grow in the Reaching Woods in west Faerûn.[12][13]
- Maples were known to grow in the forests of the lowlands of the Moonshae Isles.[4]
- Maples were known to grow in the Long Forest.[14]
- In the Unapproachable East, these trees were known to grow in Thay and the higher elevated reaches of the Yuirwood. In the former, they were cultivated on tree plantations where they were harvested by slaves.[15]
- In the Western Heartlands, maples were known to grow in the Reaching Woods.[12]
Usage[]
Maple wood could be used to construct farming tools such as pitchforks, shovels, and winnowing flails. It was also a popular wood used in the construction of mapcases.[2]
Sap from maple trees was used as a sweetener[1] and to produce sugar.[3] The thick syrup produced from the sap had a similar taste to q'laari, a naturally occurring fluid from the 531st layer of the Abyss that had poison-neutralizing properties.[16]
