Masanori was a shogun of Wa who ruled around 1717 (1299 DR).[1]

History[]

In 1717 (1299 DR), two ninjas infiltrated Aru disguised as pilgrims and tried to assassinate Daimyo Koji Kubahachi. They were killed in the attack, Koji couldn't find who hired them, and in revenge and as a message to his unknown enemy, he executed every one of the pilgrims in the train. At this brutal excess, Masanori removed Koji both from office and from the mortal world.[1]

Appendix[]

Name[]

In Ninja Wars, he is named "Masanori Nagahide", but it's clear the author misunderstood "Nagahide" as the family name of Matasuuri Nagahide, when it's actually his given name. The Matasuuris took power in 1663 (1245 DR), before Masanori's reign, so he is most likely to be a Matasuuri. Other possibilities are the Nitta clan of early shogun Nitta Shogoro and the Hidetomi clan said to be the shoguns of Wa in Oriental Adventures, page 137. With no further information, this article adopts only the given name "Masanori".
