Mike Selinker was a game designer and member of the Role-Playing Group Association (RPGA) who designed dozens of tournament modules, including at least one for the Living City program. He marshaled at one or more Gen Cons as his notorious Living City character, the scam artist Discount Marlin. Outside of Dungeons & Dragons, he also worked on the BattleTech Trading Card Game and the Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Game.[1] Mike later acted as a creative director for 3rd edition D&D and went on to become the president of Lone Shark Games.[2]
History[]
Mike got his start as a tournament module author in the RPGA in 1985, having been brought in by director Harold Johnson.[1]
When Mike later acted as one of three authors for the Book of Challenges in 3rd edition, he included a subtle reference to his Living City character Discount Merlin in one of the book's puzzles, giving a bugbear dialogue that was verbatim lines he had said in the past.[3]
Between November 2nd and 3rd of 2013, Mike was one of many participants in a 25-hour marathon that Wizards of the Coast held on the D&D Twitch TV channel as part of the Extra Life charity event, having rotating groups of players run through the adventure module Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle. He played in a group alongside Ben Petrisor, Derek Guder, and Stephen Toulouse.[2]
