Monster slayers were rangers whose calling was to hunt down monstrous creatures and purveyors of dark magic. They were master hunters that perfected the art of neutralizing their prey, discerning their weakness, and delivering a killing blow.[1]
Activities[]
They sought out and all manner of dangerous and malevolent beings that wielded powerful magic, notably dark fey, vampires, dragons, and fiends.[1]
Culture[]
The Sword Coast company Acquisitions Incorporated believed monster slayers could be quite useful to their business strategy, as many powerful creatures held cast caches of wealth and treasure.[2]
Tactics[]
While in battle, monster slayers opted focus their attacks on a creature, in order to bring it down faster.[1]
They preferred magic that allowed them to uncover the truth of evil beings, protect themselves from their dark magic, and restrain them until they could be slain. Among the spells they preferred were protection from good and evil, zone of truth, magic circle, banishment, and hold monster.[1]
Abilities[]
Novice monster slayers developed a keen eye for learning the weakness of the creatures they hunted. With quick study they could discern any resistances or immunities they possessed, along with any vulnerabilities that would cause greater harm to the beasts. This ability functioned as a sort of divination.[1]
Through continued training they learned how to resist both the physical and psychic attacks of their prey. More experienced slayers developed techniques to magically nullify spells cast by their foes, and impede magical teleportation.[1]
The most veteran monster slayers utilized techniques to turn their foes' attacks against them, performing quick counter-attacks whenever they were threatened.[1]
