Mordenkainen's penultimate cogitation was a powerful spell that allowed a wizard to recall a spell from any of his or her spellbooks.[1][2]
Effects[]
Through the use of the spell, any spell less powerful than Mordenkainen's penultimate cogitation could be recalled from one of the caster's spellbooks, as long as it stood less than one mile (1.6 km) away. It could not recall spells from scrolls or another wizard's spellbook. There was also a small chance that recalling the spell using this method erased it from the spellbook.[1][2]
The spell could not reach the spellbook if a crystal sphere stood between it and the caster.[4][2]
Components[]
The spell required only verbal and somatic components.[1][2]
History[]
The spell was attributed to the Oerthian archmage Mordenkainen.[1] In the mid‒14th century DR, the spell was uncommon in Faerûn.[2] This spell was known to be used by wizards of the Cult of the Dragon.[2]
