Mortlock Vanthampur (pronounced: /ˈmɔːrtlɒk ˈvɑːnθɑːmpɛrMORT-lock VAN-tham-per[3]) was the youngest son of Thalamra Vanthampur of Baldur's Gate in the late 15th century DR.[2]

History[]

Mortlock was born to Thalamra Vanthampur and her third husband in the Year of the Elven Swords Returned, 1465 DR,[1][note 1] who on his death asked her to look after Mortlock despite his many problems.[2]

When Mortlock was young, he was scarred across half of his face by a fire.[1]

In the Year of Three Ships Sailing, 1492 DR,[note 2] he was sent to the dungeon used by the Dead Three cultists under the bathhouse to assist them in planning attacks. After realizing he was of no use, his half-brothers conspired with several Bhaal cultists to assassinate him.[1]

Notes[]

  1. Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus is set in 1492 DR per the "Baldur's Gate Gazetteer" section (p. 159) and a clarification from the adventure's lead writer. Baldur's Gate III, which is a direct sequel to Descent into Avernus set immediately after its events, is also set in 1492 DR. In an apparent error, pages 7 and 47 of Descent into Avernus describes certain events as occurring "fifty years" after 1444 DR (1494 DR).
