Mount Hotenow (pronounced: /ˈhoʊɛtɛˈnaʊ/ HOE-teh-NOW[1]) was an active volcano in the Shadowfell and a reflection of the volcano of the same name on the Prime Material world of Toril.[2]
Description[]
This volcano was constantly erupting ash and cinder into the air, occasionally raining small stones,[2] fire, and lava over the surrounding woods.[3] Rivers of magma constantly flowed down from it, into various parts of the woods that surrounded it,[2] some of which flowed all the way to the city of Evernight.[4] These rivers emitted thick gouts of smoke and fires danced along their banks.[2]
The interior of the volcano was full of magmatic caverns, connected to exterior caves. In the hottest and most hazardous depths of the caverns, one could find portals to the Elemental Chaos and Toril.[3]
Geography[]
This volcano stood in the Burning Woods, a reflection of the Neverwinter Woods on Toril.[2]
Flora & Fauna[]
A variety of elemental creatures and fiery undead inhabited the caves of Mount Hotenow, some of them the spirits of beings slain within the volcano's Prime Material counterpart. Such undead included blazing skeletons, charnel cinderhouses, flameborn zombies, flameskulls, and forgewraiths.[3]
