Mountain lions were a species of large feline.
Description[]
Despite their name, mountain lions were not actually lions. They were slender felines and females and males looked almost identical.
Behavior[]
Mountain lions were known for being very cautious, elusive creatures.[1][2]
Abilities[]
Mountain lions were capable of leaping up to 15 ft (4.6 m) vertically and 20 ft (6.1 m) horizontally.[2]
Combat[]
Mountain lions were ferocious in combat. Its primary weapon was its sharp claws.[2]
Ecology[]
Mountain lions were carnivores and their preferred prey was deer. They were solitary creatures, with females and males living apart in separate territories. They tolerated each others company only to mate. A female mountain lion had a litter of up to four cubs, who remained with their mother for two years.[1]
Habitat[]
Mountain lions were typically encountered in deserts, forests, mountains, plains and swamps.[1][2] They were known to live in the Farsea Marshes[3], the Greypeak Mountains[4], the Storm Horns[5], the Tannath Mountains[6], and Thar.[7] Mountain lions were also encountered in the Cat Lord's Prowl.[8]
Outside of Faerun, they were known to inhabit various mountains and hills in Maztica.[9]
Relationships[]
Mountain lions occasionally served Clangeddin Silverbeard[10] and Rillifane Rallathil[11] . Wood elves considered mountain lions one of their favored companions.[12]
