Nchaser's glowing globe was a spell that created illumination in a glass globe.

Effects

Nchaser's glowing globe created a permanently illuminated glass orb. The brightness, up to the equivalent of a continual light spell, could be controlled without concentration by the caster or subsequent owner of the glowing globe.[4][5][2][3][1] There was no limit to the number of functioning globes a caster or owner could control at one time, varying the light levels individually or in concert. The orbs retained the original properties of the glass and could be moved but ceased ceased operating if broken.

In the earliest versions of the spell, ownership of a glowing globe could only be transferred via wish, limited wish, or by touching it after the death of the previous owner. The distance mental control could be maintained over an orb was based on the experience and intelligence of the owner. The more magic using experience and intelligence, the farther away the owner could be and still control the globe's brightness.[4][5] Any person could be considered the owner of the orb but, in later versions of the spell, the owner had to be able to cast 4th-level wizard spells in order to control the brightness.[2][3] The most recent version of the spell limited the distance of mental control to 30 feet but expanded those who can control brightness to clerics, sorcerers, and wizards who could cast 4th-level spells.[1]

Components

The spell required verbal, somatic, and material components. The two material components were a globe of blown glass (to contain the illumination) and a spark.
