Plot[]
Following the dragon attack on Neverwinter, it became clear to all that the Cult of the Dragon's ultimate goal was to summon Tiamat herself from the Nine Hells, an event that was considered to be unpreventable. The five allied factions of the Harpers, Zhentarim, Lords' Alliance, Emerald Enclave, and the Order of the Gauntlet, believed only solution was to try and push her back before she fully entered Toril. Led by Elminster and the Heroes of Sleeping Dragon Bridge, the powers of the five factions and the elves of Iliyanbruen banded together and traveled to the Well of Dragons to assault Tiamat's temple itself, which had already erupted into the mortal world. The alliance found additional allies in Linu La'neral and Sandesyl Morgia, a dragon cultist who disagreed with the dogma of Severin Silrajin. Together, they fought against the Cult of the Dragon's forces , the Red Wizards of Thay, as well as the five chromatic dragon heralds of Tiamat: Glycamerax, Rogrotus, Volzakaris, Kradazuur, and Hohengroth.
After defeating Tiamat's heralds, the alliance ultimately led an attack into the Temple of Tiamat. Within the temple they found Severin and Rath Modar in the midst of summoning Tiamat from the Nine Hells. Though Severin and the rest of the summoners were slain, the heroes were too late to stop the coming of Tiamat, who began emerging into Faerûn. Fortunately, Linu La'neral was able to channel a spell to weaken her long enough for their allies to defeat the dragon goddess, pushing her back into the Nine Hells and putting an end to the Cult of the Dragon's plot.[note 2]

Notes[]
- ↑ Canon material does not provide a year for the Tyranny of Dragons storyline, but in a forum post, Greg Marks stated it was set in 1489 DR. However, the events of the Tyranny of Dragons are discussed in the novel Archmage, which is set in 1485/1486 DR and has events that necessarily put it after The Rise of Tiamat. Since this inconsistency has not been cleared up, this wiki will use the vague term "1480s DR" for events related to this storyline, though it is most likely no latter than 1486 DR.
- ↑ Due to conflicts with the 5th edition adventure modules, not all plot elements of the Neverwinter video game and its expansions are considered canon. This is especially true in instances where the most plot-crucial encounters in both the adventures and expansion modules coincide with one another.
