Neverwinter: The Cloaked Ascendancy is a campaign expansion module for the Neverwinter massive-multiplayer role-playing game. Released in February 2017, the expansion added a new campaign, adventure zone, skirmish, and even more.

Plot
During the public remembrance of the fallen hero Makos in Neverwinter, the celebrations were interrupted by Gyrion of the Cloaked Ascendancy, a man who bore the crown of Neverwinter and claimed to be the ruler of the city. As the revolutionary Nashers assailed the city, Lord Neverember was protected by the Heroes of Sleeping Dragon Bridge, Xuna, and Sergeant Knox in the vaults beneath Protector's Enclave. After reaffirming his right to rule the city and confirming that Gyrion was an imposter, Lord Neverember was charmed by the warlock Nostura who attempted to seize the genuine crown.
The heroes ventured into an old Nashers hideout in the Blacklake District and encountered Kabal, a member of the Many-Starred Cloak who worked alongside Gyrion, Nostura, and another mage called Lukan. In pursuit of Gyrion, the heroes ventured to Scar Keep overlooking the Chasm, where they reunited with Captain Josef Linkletter, and soon learned that Gyrion sought to unleash the Far Realm upon Neverwinter and its citizens. After speaking to Lord Neverember, the heores came to learn about the city's financial woes and agree to drive away the Cloaked Ascendancy from the River District, reclaim the city's treasures that were lost within, and bring glory back to Neverwinter.
With the aid of an Arcane Brotherhood mage named Kavatos Stormeye, the heroes found a way to enter the four demiplanes that were created by the members of the Ascendancy. They confronted Gyrion, Kabal, and Nostura in each of their demiplanes, but were unable to apprehend any of the wizards. As the Neverwinter Guard clashed with Nasher rebels, the heroes confronted Lukan who had used his illusion magic to hide away the ritual site that the Ascendancy created to harness the powers of the Far Realm. As the heroes reached the ritual site, Gyrion sent Nostura and Kabal away while he battled the heroes himself. After receiving mortal wounds, Gyrion told the heroes that it was up to them to protect the city. Lord Neverember told the heroes later that Nostura and Kabal had fled into the Spellplague Caverns within the Chasm; the heroes gave chase and put an end the Cloaked Ascendancy for good.

- ↑ The Neverwinter MMORPG includes several locations and events in its Tower District that the Neverwinter Campaign Setting already established as being in the River District; thus, the Tower District is assumed to be the eastern River District. Moreover, while the River District Developer Blog for The Cloaked Ascendancy has a new River District south of the Neverwinter River, the Neverwinter Campaign Setting page 139 has it north of the river. For the purposes of this wiki, all locations appearing in the Tower District in Neverwinter are included in the River District and all locations in the game's River District are included in the Chasm.
