A newt was an aquatic amphibian, which included some salamanders, although not all aquatic salamanders were considered newts.

- Rough-skinned newt
- A newt with warty skin and a long tail. It was not aggressive except to its natural prey, but inflicted a powerful toxin in its bite.[1]
Usage[]
Older versions of the spell cloak of bravery required the brain of a newt as a material component.[2]
