The Orc Marches was the name given to one of the biggest orc conquests of the North.[1]
History[]
In the Year of Terrible Anger, −111 DR, several massive orc hordes came south from their homes in the Spine of the World and Ice Mountains to devastate the civilizations of the North.[1]
The orcs nearly crippled the dwarven realm of Delzoun through numerous attacks, and overran its capital city, Gauntlgrym. They also conquered the human city of Illusk; the majority of Illuskans had fled the city before its fall, either onto the sea or with the aid of magic, and survived.
Finally, an alliance of the elves of Iliyanbruen, Rilithar, Siluvanede, and Earlann stopped the orcs before they could reach the High Forest and Dessarin Valley, and broke their strength.[1]
The Illuskans were able to return and rebuild their home in the Year of Wands, −108 DR.[1] Delzoun would not recover from the losses it sustained at the hands of the hordes, instead falling to phaerimms in the Year of the Black Unicorn, −100 DR.[2] Gauntlgrym remained abandoned until the Year of the Impenetrable Mystery, 141 DR, when an effort was made to resettle it.[3]
