Jennell Jaquays was a writer, game designer, and artist working for TSR, Inc. She contributed to the Forgotten Realms and Dragon magazine among others.

Career[]

Jennell discovered Dungeons & Dragons while in college in 1975 and produced a fanzine that debuted in the same month as Dragon magazine (then known as The Dragon), titled The Dungeoneer. Tim Kask of TSR gave permission to Jaquays to publish the fanzine. She then began submitting her art to TSR to be published in The Dragon, eventually getting to draw the cover art for issue #21 in 1978.

After that, Jaquays worked as a freelance designer and artist for several companies, including TSR, writing her first Forgotten Realms piece, the adventure module The Shattered Statue in 1987. Later, she became a full-time illustrator for TSR and briefly was the company's Graphics Director before she left, shortly before TSR was acquired by Wizards of the Coast.

Since then, she primarily worked in the video games industry but also owned a fantasy illustration studio called Dragongirl Studios as well as an RPG design brand called Fifth Wall Games and Miniatures.

Jaquays was inducted into the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design Hall of Fame in 2017.

Jennell Jaquays passed away from the effects of Guillain–Barré syndrome on January 10th, 2024, as reported by her wife, video game designer and programmer Rebecca Heineman.[1]
