Psionic disintegrate,[1] also known simply as disintegrate, was a psionic science of the psychokinesis discipline,[3] that reduced a creature or object's makeup on a microscopic level,[1][3] leaving behind only a trace of fine dust. In the late 14th century DR, this power was reclassified as being part of the psychoportation discipline.[1]
Effects[]
Older versions disintegrate allowed a manifester to reduce only 8 cubic feet (0.23 cubic meters) of material at the center of a creature or object down to a scattering of microscopic pieces. Depending on the size of the target, this could prove to be not utter destruction, though for most creatures this would prove fatal.[3] If combined with the power prolong, disintegrate could affect an area of 12 cubic feet (0.34 cubic meters).[4]
When used against a living creature or undead creatures with free will, the target had to resist the effects of disintegrate as though they were being affected by death magic. If a target managed to resist the power they would experience merely a slight tingle. Additionally, this power could not affect anything protected by inertial barrier or magical forms of shielding, such as minor and standard globe of invulnerability.[3]
Around the late 14th century DR, the nature of disintegrate's effects had changed. When used against creatures it would disintegrate them in their entirety, leaving behind only a pile of fine dust, but when used against an non-living matter it could only effect as much as a 10‑foot (3‑meter) cube of space. It could even effect objects made entirely out of force, though not psionic effects, such as a null psionics field.[1]
The power had a maximum range of 120 feet (37 meters).[3] Around the late 14th century DR, this was found to have been reduced to 100 feet (30 meters), though depending upon how skilled the manifester was the range was expanded in increments of 10 feet (3 meters).[1]
Prerequisites[]
Prior to the late 14th century DR, learning this power required a psionicist to first know soften and telekinesis.[3]
Displays[]
When used this power manifested auditory, material, and visual displays. This visual display took the form of a thin green ray,[1] similar to the spell of the same name.[5]
Users[]
This power was learnable by psionicists[1][3] and wilders,[1] as well as ardents and divine minds that followed the destruction mantle.[2]
Known/Notable Users[]
- The Mind Shard of Pandorym, the imprisoned form of the eponymous elder evil.[6]
- Raulothim, a great wyrm emerald dragon.[7]
