Purify food and drink was a transmutation or alteration spell that make food edible and water potable.[2][4][5][10] The alteration version could be reversed, creating putrefy food and drink, which spoiled food and fouled water.[4][5][10]
Effects
The transmutation version of this spell as an orison learned by beginning clerics and druids of any faith.[2] When cast, this spell decontaminated one cubic foot (about 28,000 cm3 or 0.028 m3) of food and/or water per experience level of the caster. The spell removed dirt, poisons, parasites, mold, fungus, and impurities of any kind, making it suitable for consumption by most humanoids. Unholy water was ruined by this spell.[2][4][5][10]
When cast in reverse, putrefy food and drink rotted food and contaminated beverages in like amounts, making them unfit and possibly dangerous to consume. Holy water was ruined by this spell.[4][5][10]
For comparison: water weighs about 8.3 lb (3.8 kg) per gallon or 1 kg per liter. One cubic foot of water contains roughly 7.5 gal (28 l) and weighs about 62 lb (28 kg).
