Remove fear was an abjuration spell that increased the subject's courage and morale in the face of fear effects.[1][4][5][9] The reverse of this spell, cause fear, could make one or more creatures flee in panic.[4][5][9]
Effects[]
The particulars of this spell changed over time: the earliest version required the caster to touch the intended recipient,[9] whereas later versions had a range of 30 ft (9.1 m) or more and could affect additional creatures if the caster had of sufficient experience.[1][4][5] In all cases, the courage reinforcement lasted 10 minutes or until countered.[1][4][5][9] If the subject was already under the influence of a fear effect, then this spell either suppressed the fear for the duration of the spell[1] or gave the recipient a strong chance to shake off the fear entirely.[4][5][9] If cast on multiple creatures, they all had to be within 30 ft (9.1 m) of each other.[1]
When cast in reverse, cause fear assaulted the courage and wisdom of the target, likely forcing them to flee from the caster in panic for a short time. Cause fear dispelled remove fear and vice versa.[4][5][9]
The older version of this spell had no effect on the undead.[4][5]
Components[]
