Rowans were a type of tree in the Realms.[1]
Description[]
On average rowans could grow to be 10‒20 ft (3‒6.1 m) tall.[1] Their branches grew in comb-like formations, upon which flowers grew on their tips.[1][2] They also produced red berries that would induce a state of vomiting in most humans and demihumans that ate them.[2]
Habitats[]
- In interior Faerûn, rowans were one of the three primary trees that grew in the King's Forest of Cormyr.[3][4]
- In the Western Heartlands, rowans grew in the Serpent Hills[1] and the High Moor region. In the latter ecosystem, the vicious winds that were common on the High Moor stunted their growth, making 4 feet (1.2 meters) the maximum height they could generally achieve.[2]
- In southeast Faerûn, rowans grew in the Long Forest of Luiren.[5]
Usages[]
- Branches from a rowan tree could be used to construct a rod of resurrection or a staff of curing.[6]
