Scare, which was originally called Hamring's scare,[1] was an arcane necromancy spell used induce fear in several creatures.[2] Clerics of Bane, Ghaunadaur, Gruumsh, Set, and Urdlen were also granted the ability to cast this spell.[7][8]

This spell caused a number of creatures within 30 feet of each other and within medium range of the caster to become frightened or shaken for a number of seconds.[2]

A bone from an undead creature, such as a ghoul, ghast, mummy, skeleton, or zombie was required to cast this spell, in addition to verbal and somatic components.[2]

The spell was invented by Netherese arcanist Hamring in −1294 DR, the same year he invented his enfeeblement spell.[9]
