Scourge was the magical sword of Gondegal, once the so-called Lost King of Cormyr and later a Knight of the Shadows and leader of the Circle in the Demiplane of Dread.[1][2]
Powers[]
Scourge was a +1 longsword that rose to +3 when wielded against lycanthropes and shapechangers.[1][2]
History[]
While Gondegal seems to have acquired the weapon in Faerûn, some time before or during his uprising in Cormyr in the Year of the Dragon, 1352 DR, its true worth became apparent when the Mists spirited him into the realm of Ravenloft, aiding him in battling the were-creatures, vampires, and other such monsters there.[1] As a Knight of the Shadows, it aided him greatly in combatting evil and dispensing final justice.[2]

Background[]
The origin of Scourge is unknown. Realm of Terror notes "Gondegal has depleted or lost all other magical items", suggesting Scourge is the only one that remains, so this article assumes he had Scourge with him when he crossed from Toril to Ravenloft, and thus it is originated on Toril. While no Realms source mentions it, no Realms source goes into sufficient detail on Gondegal.
Furthermore, the sword is unnamed in Realm of Terror and only named Scourge in Champions of the Mist, though the statistics are the same. It may be that Gondegal named the sword later in life.
