The banks of the stream were lined with gravel,<ref name="RotA.Sum-p148" /> and were prone to regular flooding.<ref name="SK-p106" />

==Geography==
The waterway originated from near the [[High Moor]],<ref name="FRCS3e-map" /> wound west around the [[Serpent Hills]]<ref name="SK-p106" /> before eventually feeding the [[Winding Water]] just north of [[Boareskyr Bridge]].<ref name="FRCS3e-225">{{Cite book/Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd edition|225}}</ref><ref name="FRCS3e-map">{{Cite book/Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting 3rd edition/Map}}</ref> It was fed by many smaller streams, the most prominent of which was the [[River Catherine]].<ref name="SK-p106" />

As befitting its name, the Serpent's Tail was home to a variety of reptiles, including [[crocodile#Sub-Species|black caiman crocodiles]] and different species of aquatic [[snake]]s. Schools of [[salmon]] and [[trout|horned trout]] were found and regularly fished from within the river.<ref name="SK-p106" />

==History==
A great battle between the [[Swift Cavarly]] of [[Evermeet]] and the [[phaerimm]]-controlled army of [[bugbear]]s and [[mind flayer]]s was fought along the banks of the Serpent's Tail in the {{YearlinkName|1371}}. Many elven corpses remained along the stream following the battle due to the foolishness of Commander [[Laerm Ryence]].<ref name="RotA.Sum-p148">{{Cite book/Return of the Archwizards/The Summoning|148}}</ref>
