Places in the Realms where sesame was known to be cultivated or sold included:
- Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue sold sesame seeds at a price of two gold pieces per 1 lb (0.45 kg).[3]
- Sesame was known to grow in Anauroch, where it was typically harvested by the Bedine.[1]
- In east Faerûn, sesame was known to grow in the Greenfields plains.[4]
- In the land of Zakhara, sesame was known to grow on the island of Masud Jazayir.[5] While folk of the High Desert made bread and cakes using sesame.[6][7]
Usages[]
- Sesame trees were often harvested for seeds that could be eaten raw, roasted, or used as a form of spice. These seeds could also be crushed to produce sesame oil.[1]
- The spell passwall required sesame seeds as a material component.[8]

- The Bedine tribes of Anauroch were known to place sesame seeds in large mortars, hollowed out from an acacia tree. They would then crush the seeds with a wooden beam, counter-weighted with stones, by having a camel haul it around in a circle. The Bedine sold this oil in clay jugs for 1 sp.[1]
