Shandeir was a wizard and adventurer based in Elturel in the Western Heartlands in the mid–14th century DR and considered one of the more important personalities of the city.[1] Her long life extended well over a century, into the late 15th century, during which she was regarded as a wise and knowledgeable sage.

Shandier was one of the greatest wizards alive. There are secrets in this book long forgotten, and still, she was no match for Hoondarrh.
— Helene, speaking to her patron.[3]

Description[]

She was spirited and known to have a sharp tongue and salty humor. She was notorious for her pranks and riding a friendly copper dragon to travel from place to place.[1]

Possessions[]

Later in life, Shandeir briefly came into possession of the Tome of Zariel.[2]

History[]

Shandeir, others

Shandeir and her traveling companions en route to Elturel.

Some time before the Year of Three Ships Sailing, 1492 DR,[note 1] Shandeir traveled aboard the Hesperornis back to Elturel, along with her companions Falaster Fisk, Great Reader Sylvira Savikas, and Jaskir Dawn. She was enlisted to help decipher the text of the Tome of Zariel to aid High Overseer Thavius Kreeg. Aboard the ship Shandeir met and took a liking to the spirited young wizard Helene.[2]

The ship met an unfortunate fate when it landed at Mintarn, just before the isle and its docks were attacked by the red dragon Hoondarrh.[4][5] Her tome was recovered be Helene, who used it to communicate with a mysterious being and bargain for greater power.[3]
