Shape metal was a transmutation spell that allowed the caster to reshape objects made of metal.[1]

Effects[]

The spell's effects were largely comparable to those of the stone shape spell, with the obvious difference being that it was metal rather than rock that could be molded or shaped. At baseline, the spell could affect any metal object or piece of metal of up to 10 cubic feet (0.28 cubic meters), with more powerful casters being able to affect even larger objects.[1]

Casters could use the spell in combat to injure constructs made of metal, or could even attempt to use the spell to damage an opponent's metallic armor, weapons, or shield.[1]

Components[]

Casting the spell required the caster to touch the object which they intended to shape, and involved both verbal and somatic components. Clerics further required a divine focus, while arcane casters required a material component in the form of a piece of metal wire bent into the approximate shape that the caster wished to affect upon the target piece of metal. This wire had to be touched to the target object while the verbal component was uttered.[1]

History[]

The urdunnir dwarves were blessed by Dumathoin with the innate ability to cast this spell, although they could only affect objects of up to 5 cubic feet (0.14 cubic meters).[2] They were skilled enough with this innate power that they could shape a metal weapon as it struck them in order to minimize their injuries.[3]

The divine variant of the spell was first devised by shield dwarf priests.[4]
