Shatter (originally called Aksa's shatter[1]) was a sonic spell from the school of evocation, common among both arcane and divine spellcasting traditions.[4] It was one of the spells infused within a staff of open doors.[13]

Effects[]

Casting of this spell produced a tintinnabulation of sound so powerful that it could damage or shatter brittle objects, including crystalline creatures,[4] such as crysmals.[14] It was one of the only spells that could damage a demilich.[15]

The spell had a close range and could be targeted over an area of ten feet (three meters) in diameter or focused on a single target item or creature.[4]

The shockwave produced by the spell could not cross the void of wildspace. If cast within an air envelope, it could damage the hulls of spelljammers made of crystal, ceramic, or glass.[16]

Components[]

To cast this spell required verbal and somatic components. In addition, a cleric had to clutch his or her (un)holy symbol, and an arcane spellcaster had to use a chip of mica, which was consumed in the process.[4]

History[]

The spell was invented by the Netherese arcanist Aksa the Destroyer in −2131 DR.[17]

The spell was also recorded in The Codicil of White, an unholy work of Aurilian magic.[18][19]
