Snake was a grizzled lizardman guide who lived and worked inside the Wheloon Prison in the late 15th century DR.[1][note 1]

Clever! Very clever for a Human! Perhaps for your next trick you will catch a bit of meat in your teeth!
No, I am not a snake. It is what your kind call a "nickname." In this case it means my favorite food.
— Snake, on being informed that he was not a snake[1]

Description[]

Snake had green scales mottled with red, wore a notable eyepatch over his left eye, and carried a scroll about.[1]

Personality[]

The lizardman was quite satisfied with knowing all the secret ways in and out of Wheloon, and being paid for it. He had a particular taste for young live vipers, his favorite meal and source of his nickname.[1]

History[]

Snake lurked inside the Wheloon drainage culverts, hired by the magistrates of the prison to act as a guide for Cormyrean allies, and was paid even more to not tell anyone else about the secret tunnels and caves he knew of.[1]

Notes[]

  1. Menace of the Underdark, Shadowfell Conspiracy, and their associated adventure packs can be placed within the period of 14841485 DR. This is based upon the ongoing Darkening (1484–1485 DR), and the Netherese events explicitly taking place at the same time as the drow invasion.
Magic of Myth Drannor is dated to 1374 DR, as it takes place during Ilsevele Miritar's Elven Crusade.
The Haunted Halls of Eveningstar appears to be set prior to the misadventures of the Swords of Eveningstar in 1348 DR.
The Mines of Tethyamar reflects the Rage of Demons in 1487 DR.
Mask of Deception is tied to the Tyranny of Dragons event in 1489 DR.
A Study in Sable and Search and Rescue are not tied to any particular events but can be assumed to be set in the 1480s DR as well due to the surrounding context.

Background[]

Snake would be a reference to Snake Plissken, another eyepatch-wearing expert who specialized in getting in and out of prison cities.
