"So High a Price" is a short story by Ed Greenwood first published in the 1994 anthology Realms of Infamy, and reprinted in the 2005 anthology The Best of the Realms II.
Summary[]
In the Year of the Blazing Brand, 1334 DR, Manshoon is determined to overthrow the council of Zhentil Keep, and plots with Fzoul Chembryl toward this end. The great sage Elminster, disguised as a beholder, manages to stop the duo.
