Splint mail (or simply splint[1]) was a type of armor used on Toril.
Description[]
Splint mail was made up of several vertical strips of metal (known as splints) that were riveted to a backing of leather. Splint was worn over cloth padding.[1] The joints in splint mail were often protected with chainmail.[6]
Availabity[]
- In Faerûn, splint mail was common in Cormyr,[7] Turmish, and Vaasa.[8]
- Splint mail was rather rare in Kara-Tur.[9]
History[]
Splint mail was believed to have been first developed by dwarves.[10]

- Splint mail was one of two types of armor that chaos knights, a variety of specialty priest of the Church of Talos, generally favored. However, the splint mail of chaos knights was notably black in coloration and decorated with barbs.[14]
- Splint mail was among the types of armor that glorybloods, a variety of specialty priest of the Church of Tempus, most often wore.[15]
- Moon Knights, a variety of specialty priest of the Church of Selûne, wore splint armor that had a silver or white coloration and the twin eyes of Selûne emblazoned across the chest.[16]
- Splint mail was among the types of armor that swords of Cyric, a variety of specialty priest of the Church of Cyric, most often wore.[17]
