A staff of the woodlands was a powerful, enchanted staff.[2]

Description[]

Theses staves were always made from the wood of either an ash, oak, or yew tree. This wood was finely grained, carved, then bound and shodded with bronze.[3]

Abilities[]

Those who wielded one of these staves could cast animal friendship, speak with animals, and wall of thorns. They were also allowed one to animate a tree in a similar manner to the innate ability possessed by treants.[3]

Higher value versions of these staves conferred additional powers, such as barkskin and pass without trace.[3]

Notable Staves of the Woodlands[]

  • A staff of the woodlands once used by a man only known as the "Wild Man of the Wood" provided its users the benefits of permanent barkskin and ability to cast animal friendship, in addition to enhanced armor and the ability to summon shambling mounds.[4]
  • Staff of Arundel was a lesser staff of the woodlands created by the Archdruid of Kuldahar, Arundel.[5]

Notable Owners[]

  • Shiallia, the Dancer in the Glades, carried a staff of the woodlands.[6]
