The Stonehill Inn was a quaint inn in the village of Phandalin.[1]

Location[]

The modest inn was located close to the center of town.[1] It was one of the largest buildings in town.[2]

Structure[]

Newly built in the 15th century DR, the inn was a large, two-story building was made of unrefined rocks and crudely cut wood.[1][2]

Atmosphere[]

The villagers of Phandalin, from miners to farmers, enjoyed relaxing in the common room, which became a good place to hear local gossip and stories.[1] The inn was kept neat and clean, and was a generally pleasant place to visit.[3]

Services[]

The Stonehill Inn was owned by Toblen Stonehill, who operated it alongside his wife Trilena Stonehill and with help from his son Pip Stonehill.[3]

The inn provided six rentable rooms on the upper floor, plus alcoholic beverages and food.[1][2] A bed was five silver pieces a night,[2] and prices were fairly standard for food, ale, and cider,[1] with meals coming to about 1 silver piece.[2] A barmaid called Elsa served drinks at the bar.[1]

History[]

The Stonehills arrived in Phandalin from Triboar early in the construction of the town, and founded the inn around 1490 DR.[2][3][note 1] During the Redbrands' reign of terror throughout Phandalin in 1491 DR, the bandits did not frequent the inn, preferring to drink at the Sleeping Giant a few buildings to the east.[1][note 2]

Business continued more-or-less as usual during the rampage of the white dragon Cryovain across the countryside. The inn played host to important visitors during this time, such as Don-Jon Raskin, the man who was in charge of reopening the Mountain's Toe gold mines.[4] The inn's common room also became a favorite haunt for Argus Skeel, a vampire spawn in service to the necromancer Ularan Mortus.[5]

By 1496 DR, the inn remained prosperous and largely unchanged. However, at some point the Stonehills had borrowed money from the town banker and former townmaster, Harbin Wester, and he was attempting to leverage the small amount they still owed to take away their business.[3]

Notes[]

  1. Canon material does not provide a year for the events described in Acquisitions Incorporated, but Jerry Holkins answered a question via Twitter and stated the year was 1496 DR. Unless a canon source contradicts this assertion, this wiki will use 1496 DR for events related to this sourcebook.
  2. Pages 30‒31 of Lost Mine of Phandelver describe the eruption of Mount Hotenow (1451 DR) as occurring "30 years ago", which would place the adventure in 1481 DR. When the adventure was later remade into Phandelver and Below: The Shattered Obelisk, this 30 year time frame was kept (pages 50 & 53). However, pages 103 and 179 of Acquisitions Incorporated, a source published after the former, state that the events described in the adventure happen five years after both Lost Mine of Phandelver and Princes of the Apocalypse. Since the latter is explicitly set in 1491 DR, and considering this answer by Ed Greenwood about dating the adventure, this wiki will use 1491 DR for events related to both versions of the adventure.
