Sunder Halyndliam, shortened over time to Liam, was a powerful wizard and warrior who lived in his tower one day's travel from Daggerford on the Sword Coast. The town of Liam's Hold was named in his memory.[1]

Sunder Halyndliam was a warrior-wizard of great power who used to live in these parts. During his life he was one of the most powerful mortals walking the surface of this world. The village here stands on the land of his former stronghold.

History[]

Sunder Halyndliam was still alive circa 972 DR. During that time, a duo of renowned thieves from Calimshan - Jamzo and Jemzo Bakadi, attempted to pull off the heist of a lifetime. Evidently, the brothers attempted to rob Sunder Halyndliam. The thieves were never seance after that. The warrior wizard, captured unlucky Bakadi brothers and used their skulls to craft a powerful enchanted item known as the Bone Brothers Bakadi. The magic skulls were stashed in Sunder's crypt.[2]

At some point before his death, Sunder captured a drow worshiper of Vhaeraun, Sieronius Dethick, who was on a mission to the surface world. The warrior-wizard forced the drow to consumed vile ichor that slowly drained Sieronius' life and transformed him into a vampire. Sunder Halyndliam cursed the drow vampire to be forever bound to the tomb underneath Liam's Hold with only Sieronius' wife being able to release him. The drow remained trapped there for many centuries.[2]

Liam was buried in a spell-guarded crypt deep under the tower, and was said to be buried with all of his magical possessions. These included his spellbooks, magic rings, magical staff, and enchanted blade. By the mid-1360s DR, his crypt hadn't been plundered by anyone, owing to the other-planar creatures that guarded his tomb and the denial of entry by locals. The locals did this because they believed that Liam's magic held the tower together and if Liam's magic items were removed the tower would crumble, destroying the town in the falling stone. This was why all of Liam's magical items were buried with him. His silent armored wraith was said to still defend his tower against intruders, and six thieves had been found dead at the base of the tower.[1]
