Tabac was a varietal of pipeweed. It was less pleasurable to smoke than Maztican tabacco, although only pipeweed connoisseurs could generally tell the difference.[1]

Usage[]

Tabac was generally regarded as harsh and foul smelling, but suitable for smoking.[1][2][3] It was smoked both in pipes[2] and waterpipes.[4]

It was possible to become dependent on tabac such that addicts might suffer headaches if they forewent smoking it.[5]

Availability[]

Tabac was known to be grown in Chessenta and Tethyr.[1]

As of the late 15th century DR, tabac was cheaper and more readily available in Faerûn than tabacco. On the Sword Coast, a pouch of tabac sold for 5 gold pieces.[1]

In the Moonsea, tabac could be purchased in Mulmaster from stores such as Usilie Rostik's Smoke Shoppe.[6] It was even smoked among the goblins outside of civilization.[7]

Various special blends of tabac could be found for sale in Akanûl,[5] and some taverns in Airspur specialized in tabac rather than ale.[4]
