Looking at maps of present day Toril and the map of Toril Pre-Sundering, you can see that all the Western continents match fairly precisly the shape and size characteristics of the land masses that were once contected to what is recognized as Faerun in modern times. The island most west of Faerûn matches EXACTLY the shape of the Aearee Enclaves shown on Page 6 of The Grand History of the Realms.
Personally, I would venture the guess that the Aearee are absent from Faerûnian history because they were so completely seperated from the mainland that their effects on its history have been minimal since the Sundering.
By this thinking, the Aearee may still well exist, and thrive, on their far-distant island/mini-continent. The mainland Aearee empire's survived the Sundering, and the fact that the other creator races have survived in various forms into the modern times, I would say that the odds are good that a good number of Aearee still exist on Toril.

- There's mention of the aearee on page 7 of The Grand History of the Realms, though its unverified that it was indeed an aeareen city that Neirdre found. Cronje 20:05, October 18, 2010 (UTC)
- Whether or not the Aearee still exist would be a matter for fanon unless there is a verifiable source that can establish this. I'm afraid the wiki does not have a place for fanon at this time. Fw190a8 (talk · contr) 22:26, October 18, 2010 (UTC)
...I thought that was the point of the discussion page?
The fact that WotC hasn't devoted R&D time and money to deal with a far-removed race that exists only as background fodder, doesn't mean discussion can't be had about the relative chances of their continued existence.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.57.69.173 (talk • contribs) 00:19, 19 October 2010 UTC

My bad, sorry. One thing I'm curious about is why would a warband (for lack of a better term) of Lammasu would attack the Aearee? I wonder what the relative power levels are of an individual Aearee, if a smaller band of Lammasu (CR 8)could take out over a thousand of them? If so, assuming no tactical advantages held by the Lammasu, would that make the Aearee the weakest of the Creator Races, next to Humans Noxlupus 02:28, October 19, 2010 (UTC)
